Salt Tabs and Goos

Time to start getting used to gels and goos. These help tremendously with our energy levels since they're stocked with carbs.

Some goo/gel choices from Coach Jane:
1. GU
2. Power Gel
3. Cliff shots (mostly organic - a plus)
4. Hammer Gel
5. Accelergel
6. Carboom (fruit ingredients)
There are others - the above are the most well known. *Some have caffeine and some don't - check the label as some people react horribly to the caffeine if they are not used to it (read prolonged bathroom break :-( )

Our favorite flavored gu so far: Strawberry Banana

And some more from Coach Jane:

Another thing to think about if you sweat alot is to take salt tabs. Endurolytes (made by hammer) are salt tabs designed just for athletes.. You are supposed to take 1-3 an hour.... I have used them during longer triathlons when sweating a lot - they are EXCELLENT.

Mmmm Gatorade

Discovered our favorite Gatorade flavor! Original Lemon-Lime was the leader until today, when we tried out Fierce Melon -- which was both refreshing and yummy.

On the yucky scale, Original Fruit Punch is the worst (in my opinion :) ) -- tastes like cough syrup!

Independence Day Run

route on july 4 Today was my first run out of Hoboken. Yesh and I ran along the water to Edgewater, then decided to take the stairs up the cliff to Weehawken and then ran back home (past Lincoln Tunnel traffic -- euch!). We did ~5 miles in the boiling humidity.

That was the least of our challenges however -- we managed to surmount some killer steps! The view from the top was phenomenal though -- well worth it!

Marathon: You Can Do It!

We were each given a copy of Jeff Galloway's book, Marathon: You Can Do It! today. For starters, we learnt that I was running too fast during today's 6 mile run (hence the general pooped-ness!).

This is an excellent book: really motivating, has some great (practical) tips and insight from someone who obviously loves running and wants to help others to enjoy it too.
