8417 and 8147

We went to go pick up our 1/2 marathon bibs today. Funnily enough, we had different combos of the same numbers, even though we registered separately!

Recovering in Belchertown

We hit 12.5 miles yesterday -- longest I've ever run, and a little shy of Yesh's 1/2 marathon a few years ago.

We then hopped into a car for a 4 hour drive to Belchertown MA, for our friends Tim and Naomi's wedding. Bad idea (to drive for 4 hrs straight after the run with no stretches, NOT the wedding :) )! We were walking like Iron Giants for the next 2 days (this didn't, however, stop us from dancing to the great music at the wedding reception!).

So, lesson learnt, we need to stretch out a bit more and not sit for extended periods of time after a long run!

Running Music

With all this running, an ipod is a must! But not everything on our ipod turned out to be good for running (too slow, too many variant beats, etc. etc.). I did however find (on one of my many stints on the treadmill) that some songs are perfect to run to:

Chaiyya Chaiyya (the Inside Man version in particular) -- this one I can listen to mile after mile after mile after mile

John Tesh's "A Deeper Faith" album -- this has a tonne of good beat-y songs

Bhangra (any bhangra) -- my ultimate favorite one though is Billo by Juggy D

Yesh, on the other hand, has been listening to Dan Brown's audiobooks.

Lower to Mid Manhattan Run

We got up late this morning (7 am!) and managed to miss almost every connection into the city. Since Yesh had to catch up on some work, we decided to go to WTC instead and then run along the river.

Just mapped it out, and we only did 10.2 miles (not the 12 we were supposed to, whoops). However, the change in scenery was great. We saw:

  • 4 helicopters (and 3 helipads)
  • the Trapeze School (and a student jump)
  • the new dog run named after Sirius, the police dog that died on 9/11
  • yachts, sail boats, the Beast, kayaks...
  • lots of fellow runners, doggies, bikers, rollerbladers...

The weather was a lot better today -- hot, but bearable! We missed running with our Asha buddies though.
